Computer Science is the study of algorithmic processes and the machines which carry out these processes. Computer Science is a mix of theory, application, design, and experiment. Colgate was one of the first colleges to establish an independent computer science program and it continues to be a leader in the teaching of computer science at the undergraduate level. Colgate offers a full concentration in Computer Science, a combined Computer Science/Mathematics concentration, and a minor in Computer Science. Department faculty have active research programs and have been successful in aquiring NSF grants to support research, curriculum development and educational infrastructure activities in computer science. Students who concentrate in Computer Science have the opportunity to work on research projects both during the academic year or during a summer. Graduates of the computer science program at Colgate find many opportunities open both for employment in computer-related jobs or for graduate education. |
