This course combines the study of the principles and methods of cryptology - the creation and analysis of codes and ciphers - with the history of cryptology and its importance in world affairs. We will finish with a review of modern coding techniques and their importance to many aspects of modern life.

A syllabus of readings and assignments will be developed as the course proceeds. Students should regularly check the syllabus web page for reading assignments and quizzes. The blackboard page will be used for announcements and quizzes.

There will be a series of online quizzes on the readings. These quizzes are open book, but must be completed on time. Class attendance is an important part of the course.
